The Queen City Brewers Festival (QCBF) IS Charlotte on Tap. Premiering at the Neighborhood Theatre (511 E. 36th Street, Charlotte, NC, 28205), on Saturday, February 4, 2012, QCBF is exclusive to the Charlotte-area breweries that are putting the Queen City on the craft beer map. The event will feature a diverse selection of beer styles and flavors to taste and learn about from official brewery representatives. With Charlotte’s craft beer market exploding in recent years, the goal of this event is to spotlight the city’s emerging craft breweries while bringing awareness to the event’s nonprofit host, Partners for Parks, a nonprofit, nonpartisan foundation that seeks to promote and enhance parks, recreation and open space in neighborhoods throughout Mecklenburg County and the surrounding area. More than thirty craft beers will be on hand with each brewery showcasing its full lineup of beers. Brewers are encouraged to bring one “super” flavor or style of beer especially for QCBF, as the event takes place the day before the Super Bowl. QCBF will partner with Charlotte-based food vendors, and will feature works by local artists. Guests will also enjoy live music.

“On our annual Valentine’s weekend program, we showcase three orchestral tours de force, each examining different aspects of love. It seems that tragic love stories like Romeo & Juliet often inspire great works of art. Wagner’s operatic retelling of Tristan und Isolde is a prime example. In the musical bookends 'Preludes & Liebestod' (over three hours of music separates these two sections in the actual opera), Wagner creates a magical sense of yearning, longing, rapture, and ultimately, loss. I often think of Richard Strauss’ opera Der Rosenkavalier as a 'dramedy.' The main characters’ pursuit of finding true love, contentment, etc. is underscored by the sounds of Viennese waltzes and gorgeous melodic line. In this orchestral suite, the SC Phil will sing and dance the evening away. Guilty pleasures ... we certainly have them in the symphonic repertoire, and Scheherazade tops my list. Rimsky-Korsakov’s vivid account of the Tales of Arabian Nights is a true showcase for the orchestra, whether playing in solo, section, or a blazing glory of the entire ensemble. Starring in the title role will of course be our fearless concertmaster, Mary Lee Taylor Kinosian. Join us for this perfect celebration of love and music.”
