Healthy Schools: What's this all about?

Healthy Schools is a broad ranging initiative. The bottom line is to teach kids healthy nutrition and engage them in physical activities that will deliver benefits for a lifetime. In part, this is Cabot's home grown response to the national obesity epidemic.

Vermont Healthy Schools

It takes more than a community to turn this around. It will take all the communities across the nation; it requires the awareness and enthusiastic participation of parents; and it takes the steadfast support of schools, educators, medical and nutrition professionals, and mostly, the kids themselves. If we show kids the right path, if we make physical activity and learning about good dietary habits fun, they will embrace this whole-heartedly and put these ideas into practice. Our goal is to make health and nutrition a top priority. We seek communities of healthy, active, smart kids with a bright future in front of them. Nothing less will do.

So...why does Cabot care?

Good question with an even better answer. We care because Cabot is a farm family owned dairy cooperative. Our cooperative is comprised of local dairy farmers that support Vermont and make their living in the state. Simply put, we love Vermont. Our company is based in Vermont, and our marketing efforts are community minded. As Vermont prospers, as our kids grow into healthy and smart adults, our company will thrive with them. Cabot Creamery is a food company, and the more our Cabot-consumer communities know about smart food choices, the better off Cabot and the better off our communities at large will be.

So...what is this site really about?

Among other things, this site is intended to be a fun resource for kids to learn about nutrition, healthy food choices, calcium and cows. But even more than that, it provides substantive resources for parents and teachers to learn about those same things and to help their kids make better choices. We have sections on healthy and fun recipes, ways for schools and communities to host wellness fairs, links to important resources locally and nationally that would interest parents and teachers alike, and a way to get very cool posters for your school or community. We worked hard to make this web section fun and accessible. We welcome your feedback, ideas, disgruntled expressions of dissatisfaction, and even high praise. We ask you to help us make this site the best it can be. Please email your comments in this regard to Marie Frohlich.
