FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

How do I edit an entry in my log?

You can edit an entry by choosing the date from the calendar and then clicking on your desired activity.

What is a "virtual challenge?"

You compete online - on the honor system - to log your exercise in a given day. Cabot, Concept2 and Green Mountain Coffee are all about healthy lifestyles and the pursuit of good eating and exercise, so we thought it would be fun to construct a challenge online. It's virtual because you'll participate without seeing the other contestants involved - AND although you will exercise, you won't actually walk, run, row or bike to Las Vegas from Vermont.

Who can enter?

Anyone over 50 can enter our virtual challenge. Anyone younger has our blessings but not our permission to participate.

Why Vegas to Vermont?

This is actually our second virtual challenge. The first brought us from Vermont to Vegas for the 50+ AARP Conference and Expo. It was such a hit, that we've decided to do the return trip! Hence, Vegas to Vermont! Also, because we're Vermont companies and we love to bike, row, run and walk in our state. The Green Mountains give us the best background for year-round physical activity - that's why more than 10 times our population visit Vermont every year. We have tried, along the Vegas to Vermont route, to emphasize the contest's Vermont connection.

When will I know who wins what?

Keep checking back on our site: www.cabotcheese.coop/virtualchallenge. Winners will be posted as awards are made for stages completed. A list of all winners will be posted on the website by March 19th.

What happens if I start and do not finish?

Like any one of us hasn't started an exercise routine and not completed it? What happens is you'll have our sympathy. We'll probably try to nudge you back into participating. And there are prizes to be awarded throughout the challenge. You never know what you can win by staying as involved as you want.

What if I don't walk, run, bike, row or ski? Can I still participate?

Exercise substitutions are okay by us. Frankly, we wish we could give you extra credit if you were to take a hike up an actual Vermont mountain on one of our many breathtaking trails or if you took a swim in Lake Champlain (ok, probably too cold). We say that if you move in any sport, count it as close to the sports on the Vegas to Vermont Virtual Challenge, and it counts. Say you play tennis for an hour. Give yourself credit for an hour of walking or running, depending on how vigorous the game. Or you play a round of golf? Log those hours played as walking. No extra credit for playing below par (you wish).

How can walking, rowing, running, biking or skiing earn the same distance?

Because this isn't a race in the traditional sense, we based the programming of our Virtual Challenge on time. We estimated that it takes 180 hours to finish regardless of mode. All finishers are in the same pool for the drawing of the Grand Prize as well as the others.
