Cool Kids Campaign Volunteer Celebration
The 2014 Cabot Community Tour received the red carpet treatment from Towson, Maryland on Thursday, June 12th. The Towson University Marriott welcomed Cabot staff into their hotel and our Farmers’ Gratitude Grille chef Jimmy Kennedy into their kitchen as we helped celebrate The Cool Kids Campaign and the work of their volunteers. The Cool Kids Campaign quickly became one of the Tour’s favorite partners, both for the work they do and the enthusiasm their staff brought to our Tour stop. Executive Director, Sharon Perfetti’s commitment to the families and children involved in Cool Kids was evident from the enthusiasm the volunteers displayed at the Wine and Cheese gathering. Cool Kids Campaign is an organization that is committed to improving the quality of life of pediatric cancer patients and their families.
The highlight of the evening was the dedication of Cabot’s Chakra Window by Senior Vice President of Marketing Roberta MacDonald to Cool Kids. Said MacDonald, “The 1200 farm families that make up Cabot would like to send their positive energy and healing to the families and children involved in Cool Kids.” The Chakra window will be installed in the Cool Kids Learning Center to be a permanent source of positive energy to all the children served by the Cool Kids Campaign.
Despite nearing 1,000 miles cycled, Myron and Cathy Skott and Basil Campbell continue to be the perfect Cabot Ambassadors, bringing their energy and enthusiasm while getting to know the Cool Kids volunteers and staff.
Guests were treated to a Community Tour-inspired cake that was worthy of a competition grand prize by Cupcake Wars winning bakery Le Cakerie. Guests not only enjoyed a variety of appetizers created by our Farmers’ Gratitude Grille, but also local wines and beers thanks to our partners Linganore Winery and Heavy Seas Brewery. Delicious local coffee was provided by the Chesapeake Bay Roasting Company, whose brand ambassador Mary Rosa helped to welcome guests.
About the Tour
The 2014 Cabot Community Tour is a celebration of the work of cooperatives, service organizations, and volunteers and honors our 1200 farm family owners’ three most cherished principals: Cooperatives, Community and Volunteerism. From May 17 through June 21, the Tour is following a route along the East Coast Greenway, stopping at cities and towns along the way, meeting with organizations and their volunteers and honoring the work that goes into making a healthy, vibrant, and sustainable community.
Supporting the tour is the Farmers’ Gratitude Grille, a traveling kitchen conceived by the farm families who own Cabot. Cabot chefs prepare healthy, delicious meals as a way of thanking those who generously give their time to others in their communities.
Our farmers understand the value of volunteerism, and how donating time and services make communities stronger and healthier.
