Piccolo Spoleto Festival: Charleston, South Carolina

A Joyous Celebration of Visual, Literary & Performing Arts

One of the highlights of the Community Tour is our stop in Charleston, South Carolina. For 17 days in the spring, Charleston transforms into a Mecca for the international arts scene when it hosts the popular Spoleto Festival USA.

With an emphasis on accessibility and community participation in the arts, Piccolo Spoleto is the official outreach arm of Spoleto Festival USA. It focuses attention primarily on the arts of the Southeast region. The traditional offerings include visual arts exhibits, classical music, jazz, dance, theatre, poetry readings, children’s activities, choral music, ethnic cultural presentations, crafts and film.

“Piccolo Spoleto provides an excellent opportunity for everyone to experience the wonder and beauty of the arts. I invite you to join us in celebrating the 36th year of this high-energy, spirited event,” says Charleston Mayor Joseph P. Riley.

Cabot will be participating in the fun at Piccolo Spoleto on May 24. We’ll be sampling The World’s Best Cheddar in the heart of the Marion Square Farmers’ Market. Joining us will be other community partners like Lighten Up Charleston, Charleston Habitat for Humanity, and the East Coast Greenway.

We hope you and your family will enjoy all the fun Piccolo Spoleto has to offer and that you’ll stop by the Cabot tent to sample the yummy selection of cheeses brought to you by our 1200 farm family owners on the 2014 Cabot Community Tour. You can also taste so of the delicious dishes prepared by Cabot chef Jimmy Kennedy throughout the day.

In addition to sampling The World’s Best Cheddar, you can bring your children by the Cabot Growing Health & Wealth tent, where we will be sharing our Growing Health & Wealth Activity Kit. The kit was created for families of 6-10 year olds. It encourages grandparents and parents to help their young ones understand the importance of healthy choices and money. Key themes include building STRONG BONES and bodies through exercise, dairy calcium and food along with building STRONG VALUES about money through ways to save, spend and share it.

The 2014 Community Tour – A Celebration of Communities & Good

The 2014 Cabot Community Tour is a celebration of the work of cooperatives, service organizations, and volunteers and honors our 1200 farm family owners’ three most cherished principals: Cooperatives, Community and Volunteerism. From May 17 through June 21, the Tour is following a route along the East Coast Greenway, stopping at cities and towns along the way, meeting with organizations and their volunteers and honoring the work that goes into making a healthy, vibrant, and sustainable community.

Our farmers understand the value of volunteerism, and how donating time and services make communities stronger and healthier. Interested volunteers who can’t join us on the Cabot Community Tour can still get involved by visiting rewardvolunteers.coop, and downloading the free Reward Volunteers iPhone app, or using the online web widget. Reward Volunteers is a free, easy way to track the time you spend volunteering in your community – and to earn rewards for yourself and the organizations you serve.

The 2014 Community Tour was created by Cabot Creamery Cooperative and its fellow sponsors and supporters, including: AARP Create the Good, East Coast Greenway, HandsOn Network, Marriott, National Life Group, and local affiliates of Habitat for Humanity.
