Celebrating Cooperatives, Volunteers, and Service Organizations Along the Way

CommTour_MobileButton_166x151_300_RGB[1]The 2014 Cabot Community Tour is a five-week “Celebration of Communities and Good,” highlighting the extraordinary connections among cooperatives, volunteers, and the service organizations supporting these communities. The Tour honors three of our 1,200 farm-family owners’ most cherished principles: Cooperatives, Community and Volunteerism.

The first Cabot Community Tour in 2012 was such a success we decided to reprise it as a way to continue to shine the spotlight on the sustained and committed volunteerism and community service work that is happening in cities and towns along the East Coast Greenway. CommunityTour_whitemapTogether with partners from AARP Create the Good, HandsOn Network, Marriott, National Life Group, local affiliates of Habitat for Humanity and East Coast Greenway, we have planned the tour route as a way to highlight and celebrate this work in the communities along the way.

HabiJax_Logo_1063x453_300_RGB[1]Joining us once again for a ride of almost 1,000 miles will be our intrepid cyclists – and enthusiastic volunteers – Cathy and Myron Skott, who pedaled every mile of the 2012 Tour. Once again, the Skotts will bring their passion and energy to this exciting adventure. Joining them as they ride their way north will be cycling groups from the communities and organizations that make up the heart and soul of the Tour.

GratitudeGrille_Logo_Black_2100x1042_300_RGB[1] The Grille is a traveling kitchen conceived by the farm families who own Cabot as a way to thank volunteers and service organizations for the selfless work they do in supporting and sustaining their communities. Cabot chefs will prepare delicious, healthy meals for hungry riders and volunteers throughout the Tour.

RV_Mobile_Magnet_156x156_300_RGB[1]Many of these volunteers and our partner organizations are using Reward Volunteers, a free iPhone app and web widget that allows all volunteers to log hours. Using the RV app makes the users and their organizations eligible for prizes and cash awards. It’s an easy, fun way to track the hours they spend serving their communities.

There are lots of gatherings and events spotlighting volunteerism and health and fitness throughout the 36-day Cabot Community Tour. Check the Tour Route and Schedule of Events to track our progress or join us at events that are open to the public.

And please join us on Saturday, June 21 for the 2014 Community Tour Finale at Adventures NYC, an exciting event for the whole family that is free to the public. Get ready to bike, hike, climb and paddle as New York City Parks celebrates the great outdoors.
