We’re a proud Cooperative and love the principles and the long-term vision and sense of community they provide. As employees, we take great pride in working on behalf of the 1,200 farm families who own Cabot Creamery. Our farm families couldn’t be prouder when they see their finished product on grocery store shelves – and winning prestigious awards!Real farmer owners of the @cabotcheese dairy coop. Our farm families run the Co-op from the Board of Directors on down. They hire our Senior Management and they work together regularly with our staff.
We recognize Cooperatives aren’t as common or familiar as we’d like and we pride ourselves on creating opportunities to learn about the structure, tour our Creamery and meet the farmers who make it happen through events like the Farmer’s Gratitude Tour, Open Farm Sunday and many grocery store cheese – samplings.
This summer, one of our farmers (and Board Members), Paul Doton of Doton Farm, had a visit from a family who wanted to verify the authenticity of our farms. Here’s the story….and if you want to meet some of the other famers who own Cabot, search #realfarmersofcabot !
In mid-August I was moving the cows back across the road from the pasture to the barn. A van with New Jersey plates pulled up and told me that they had seen the video of our farm on the Cabot website. They were checking to see if I was a real farmer. They were a young couple with two small children. I gave them a quick tour of the farm. They were headed to the sampling center at Quechee. I think I convinced them that I’m real, I’m a farmer and I own Cabot.
