We especially love this bacon apple cheddar pizza because the flavor combo keeps everyone happy, a little artisanal for mom & dad, a little bacon-y for the kids, and a whole lot of cheddar for all. With our all new Smokey Bacon Shredded Cheese you can leave off the bacon if you don’t have time to precook it… did someone say “easy weeknight dinner”?
This recipe can be made using pre-made pizza dough or pre-cooked flatbreads that can be found at the grocery store, or if you’re thinking ahead, you can make a really good and straight forward pizza dough that works great on the grill. Cabot Creamery’s Grilled Cheddar Flatbread recipe is a great option, or this great recipe from our B Corporation friends at King Arthur Flour is one we always have success with.
TIPS FOR GRILLING THAT DOUGH
-Once you’ve reached a nice hot temperature inside your grill, you may need to turn the flames down under the pizza if you’re using a gas grill, or use the indirect heat method on a charcoal grill. You don’t want your bottom crust to burn before the top is fully melted.
-If you are using fresh dough rather than the pre-made flatbreads, we recommend starting with a smaller sized pizza as the dough can be a little hard to handle if it’s too big.
Once you’ve mastered the art of grilling pizza, why not think pizza party? Cabot Creamery has as many shredded cheese options as there are pizza toppings. Make a giant batch of dough, set out the toppings, rip open the cheese, and everyone can create their favorite. Ahhhh Summer, what could be better?!
