Home Cooked Meals for Healthy Heart Month

Few things show someone you care more than preparing them a home-cooked meal. Selecting a recipe, buying the ingredients, and preparing a meal takes time, effort, and includes a special ingredient not available in stores. As Sophia Loren said, “The most indispensable ingredient of all good home cooking: love for those you are cooking for.”

For Heart Month this February, the farm families of Cabot have a special gift…two recipes that received the American Heart Association’s Heart-Check certification. Click To Tweet The Heart-Check recipe nutrition requirements were developed based on American Heart Association science recommendations, letting you know that the recipe is heart-healthy. The American Heart Association’s Heart-Check mark has been on qualifying products since 1995 to help consumers find foods that can be part of a healthy dietary pattern and now recipes can receive the mark by meeting nutrition standards important to cardiovascular health.

Cabot’s Green Chile Chicken Enchilada Casserole is a colorful dish with amazing flavor that requires very little effort to prepare (our little secret). This one dish meal is the perfect way to show someone they are “the one”. Or bring the dish to a friend or neighbor who could really use the night off from cooking. The two-step recipe is perfect any night of the week. Check out this American Heart Association Heart-Check certified recipe using Cabot’s Lite50 Cheddar. The lite cheese melts ooey-gooey and oh-so-yummy and is a great complement to the heat from the chiles and enchilada sauce.

Cabot’s Bulgur, Cucumber & Chickpea Salad has the fresh taste of cucumbers and garden herbs. No matter the season, this recipe is a great go-to. Combined with the hearty appeal of chickpeas and bulgur, this main course salad is dressed with Cabot’s creamy low-fat plain Greek yogurt.

Although February is heart month, you can keep feeding your heart all year long with Cabot’s Heart Healthy Dinner Menu. Enjoying a variety of nutrient-rich foods every day can ensure you get the proper nutrition for good health, so that you can be there for those you love.

Heart-Check certification does not apply to recipes unless expressly stated.

I came here thinking to find the recipe for the crackers shown in the lead picture, but it doesn’t seem to be in the recipes even though it was a lead picture.
