The CabotFit team’s mission is focused on increasing awareness about the importance of wellness through nutrition and exercise. The team, which has been running since 2013, is comprised each year of bloggers, social media mavens, Twitter masters, Cabot farmers, and Cabot Fit Team staff members. Here’s a recap of the 2017 race.

Earlier this month members of the Cabot family, bloggers, and social media starlets from across the country joined together in Narragansett, RI as the 2017 CabotFit team ran the Ocean Road 10K.

Drawing from our farm family roots, the Cabot Wellness Team set out to make each runner feel welcomed, supported, and of course, well fed with cheese! Here are highlights from their time together:

Friday ushered in arrivals to Narragansett where team members met at the historic Ocean Rose Inn and had dinner at Turtle Soup Restaurant.  Round-the-table introductions led to a little bit of learning about each other and a lot of laughs!

With the goal to fuel up each day leading up to the big race, Cabot’s Wellness Team members — Sara and Caisil — provided overnight oats for in-room breakfasts on Saturday morning.

Runners Sandra and Heather made the most of a beautiful early morning by taking a run along Ocean Road, before the day’s adventures. Joining them on the race was Diahann, a friend of Cabot’s from Florida Dairy Farmers. She and Brittany, also from Florida Dairy Farmers, were honorary members of the team for the weekend.

No trip to Cabot country is complete without a dairy farm visit.  So, Saturday morning the team visited EMMA Acres Farm, in Exeter, RI, where they were greeted by Edwin (Scooter) LaPrise and his daughter Maggie.

Team members learned a little bit of cow culture — like how cows have favorite places to sleep, and will kick others out if they are in their spot!  They met twin baby calves who were almost a month old, and baby “Bumblebee” who was just about a week old.

After plenty of baby calf ooh’ing and ah’ing, attendees learned about the milking process at EMMA Acres and how they send milk to Cabot for butter and cheese, as well as to Rhody Fresh for fluid milk.

Later, with a picnic lunch to enjoy, the team met Shirley Eastham, president of the Narragansett Historical Society and took a trolley tour of the area.  Filled with fun facts and some special “dirty historical gossip”, the team quickly realized whatever #ShirleySaid was what they wanted to hear!  The tour ended with a visit inside the historical Towers, the remaining portion of which has survived numerous fires and hurricanes!

Luckily, the rain was whisked away overnight and the team woke up on race day to plenty of sunshine (and a bit of a chill) — the perfect running weather!  It was a beautifully scenic route mostly along the ocean, and through some of the areas the team had visited the day before.

It was a great race, with Sandra placing 3rd in her age group!  The team visited the Cabot booth after the race.

Then, they headed to the beach for some photo opps and a walk along the water.  Ready to relax, the team ventured back to the Ocean Rose Inn to enjoy some post-race smoothies:

The highlight of the pre-race afternoon, though, was a Cabot cheese tasting event at The Richards Bed & Breakfast.  A gorgeous two-and-a-half story stone building built in 1884, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  Set in the back garden, the cheese tasting included a story of Cabot and the cheese making process, along with a sampling of a wide variety of Cabot Cheeses paired with local Rhode Island and Vermont beverages.

Before the team said their goodbyes, they enjoyed a final team dinner at the Coast Guard House – another RI historical site which has been in operation for over 75 years!

And although the best prize of the day was the safe and speedy completion of a hard run race, the Cabot Wellness Team had a few fun awards of their own to pass out at dinner:
