December is a time for reflecting on the past year as it comes to an end. It’s a time for setting goals and intentions for the New Year on the horizon…and it’s also a time for lots of lists! Not just holiday to-do lists, but the “Best of” and “Worst of” the year lists. Here at Cabot, we’ve spent some time reflecting on some of our best and most popular recipes and we have quite the compilation for you. Some you’ve surely tried, and others that perhaps you haven’t yet. Maybe your New Year’s Resolution will be to try our Top 10 Most Popular Recipes, we’d like that.
So, without further ado…we’ll start with our #10 most popular recipes:
#10. Scalloped Potatoes with Greek Yogurt & Cheddar. This is a traditional au gratin style dish with a healthier twist – perfect for adding to your holiday menu. Traditionally, au gratin calls for lots of butter and milk or cream. Using Cabot 2% Plan Greek-style Yogurt not only saves calories and fat, but also add an extra dose of protein. Deliciously satisfying and comforting, this is the perfect side dish for your next family gathering.
#9. Next on the list, Beef Stroganoff with Greek Yogurt Sauce. Another tried and true traditional dish that brings a warm, comforting meal to the whole family. It’s no wonder that so many have fallen in love with the rich, velvety sauce of seared beef and mushrooms that perfectly complements a warm bed of noodles.
#8. Ahhh…Cheddar Ale Soup. This is a classic soup great for any time of year. Made with your favorite ale and preferred choice of cheddar (we love using Seriously Sharp!). Topped with crispy, crumbled bacon this recipe brings a quick and satisfying meal to the table in no time.
#7. Festive Cabot cheddar Tree. Not surprisingly, everyone loves this super simple, and beautifully festive cheese plate! It’s the perfect opportunity to use all of your favorite cabot cheeses (the possibilities are endless!) while incorporating fresh tomatoes, and sprigs of fresh herbs for that special holiday flare.
Now, it comes as no surprise, being that we make cheddar cheese, that our most popular recipes are…wait for it…mac ‘n cheese recipes! In fact, the next four recipes on our list in 2015 are ALL macaroni and cheese variations. How many versions of mac and cheese can there possibly be you ask? We believe the possibilities are endless… there are more than 40 on our website alone; and we love to make-over mac and cheese whenever we can. Here are the most popular from our site:
#6. Number six, Garganelli Mac ‘n Cheese with Roasted Jalapenos & Bacon. I mean really…why have plain old mac ‘n cheese when you can add jalapenos and bacon? This takes a basic dish up to a whole new level. And did we mention bacon? Yum! Using a combination of cheddars creates an irresistible creamy cheese sauce, and the zesty jalapenos make it anything but plain.
#5. Coming in at number five is our Light Mac & Cheese. We get it…sometimes you want that comforting bowl of mac ‘n cheese but want to save some calories and fat. Everything in moderation, right? So our Light Mac & Cheese fits the bill with a lowfat version of a traditionally higher-in-fat dish using our Sharp Lite50 Cheddar and a small amount of cream cheese. Our Sharp Lite50 Cheddar is full of flavor, and it melts beautifully with the cream cheese helping to produce that satisfying, creamy sauce you crave. So enjoy this dish without feeling guilty.
#4. Baked Macaroni & Cabot Cheddar. Possibly the most traditional recipe in our recipe box – good old fashion mac ‘n cheese. The perfect dish for a family meal, potluck picnic, or holiday side dish. This version uses our classic award-winning Sharp Cheddar, with a hint of zingy spice from a few dashes of Tabasco Sauce. It’s rich, creamy, and totally mouthwatering.
#3. Our number three recipe is 10-minute Lactose-Free Mac & Cheese. Naturally aged cheeses, like Cabot Cheddar, are naturally lactose-free (rejoice!), and with the availability of lactose-free milk, now anyone can enjoy a quick, healthy and lactose-free meal. Cooked on the stovetop, this recipe is easy and delicious and definitely beats those boxed versions made with “real cheddar.”

#2. Coming in hot at number two – Hot as a Torch Jalapeno Poppers! Wow, our fans must love spicy food – these poppers are a classic party hors d’oeuvre for anything from the big game to holiday parties, or just because on Taco Tuesday. Our jalapeno poppers are not only easy to make, but they are baked instead of fried, making them a much healthier alternative to the frozen-from-a-box or fried variety. If you really want to kick up the heat – use our Chipotle or Habanero Cheddar and skip the ground chipotle pepper. But don’t say we didn’t warn you…they are “Hot as a Torch” after all!
And finally, drumroll please…our number one most popular recipe in 2015 was…
#1. Greek Yogurt Dip & Cucumber Sauce. Also known as Tzatziki, this popular Mediterranean dish is a crowd favorite to accompany anything from grilled kabobs to Gyros, or as a dip with veggies and crackers. This recipe is quick, easy, and full of flavor and packs a protein punch.
