Seven Sensational Side Dishes for the Holidays

Here at my house, we’re in a happy frenzy of planning for the holidays. First up, Thanksgiving dinner, when friends and family, and even the occasional displaced stranger, gather together to count our blessings and catch up over our favorite foods.

If your family is like mine, they demand their favorite dishes at Thanksgiving, dishes I prepare year after year, and I am happy to oblige. But lately I’ve started to offer one new dish – or an old standard prepared a new way. This change allows us all to try amazing new recipes alongside traditional ones. It’s a Thanksgiving win/win.

Here are Seven Sensational Side Dishes from the Cabot website and a few of our Cabot Cheese Board bloggers. They’re perfect for your next big get-together.

First up is a delicious twist on a Thanksgiving classic. This Cheddar Green Bean Casserole may just become a regular on your holiday menu. Its cheesy deliciousness will make everyone give thanks for this yummy variation on a classic theme.

Lately it seems like the popularity of kale has gone through the roof. The talented food blogger Brandy of Nutmeg Nanny has taken this in-demand veggie to new heights of flavor. Her recipe for Creamed Kale is simple yet sophisticated and sure to steal a few culinary hearts.

Here’s a prize-winning side dish from Emily at West of the Loop. Emily’s totally delightful recipe for Cheddar Jalapeno Corn Pudding with Blistered Tomatoes took second place in the Cabot Farmers’ Legacy Collection Recipe Contest. It would make a tasty and very welcomed addition to any holiday meal.

Even at the holidays, some people need to follow a low carb diet. And when it comes to searching for inventive, delicious low carb recipes, we know we can always look to Carolyn of All Day I Dream about Food. Her savory Spicy Sausage & Cheddar Stuffing is not only a true crowd-pleaser it’s also low carb and gluten free! Everyone win’s with this fine dish.

And check out Carolyn’s recipe for Sour Cream Cheddar Mashed Cauliflower. This tasty side dish has become a staple at my house. It’s so rich and creamy it makes me forget about my love affair with mashed potatoes. Low carb never tasted so good.

If, however, you absolutely, positively have to have mashed potatoes on your Thanksgiving menu, you may want to try an old favorite with a twist. These Greek Yogurt Mashed Potatoes are deliciously rich, but they’re creamier and they’re loaded with extra protein when you add Cabot Plain Greek-Style Yogurt.

If you want the full carb experience for your stuffing this Thanksgiving, but want to try something different, may we suggest this Spicy Sriracha Cornbread Sausage Stuffing from Erin, The Law Student’s Wife. This recipe invites you to walk on the wild side of this side dish. It is dense and rich and packed with flavor and cheesy goodness – yes, there’s some fine cheddar cheese in this flavorful fantasy. And it has just a bit of a kick from the Sriracha.

So there you have it – seven sensational side dishes with a little extra pizzazz to make your Thanksgiving table even more special this year.
