It’s Time for Poutine

We don’t know about you, but when the temperatures drop and the sweaters come out, we start dreaming of comfort food. Sharable, hearty dishes that are fun to eat and that warm up our bellies on cold nights.

For us, poutine might just be the ultimate comfort food. This classic dish originated in rural Quebec in the 1950s, but it’s been a North East staple for years—a regular fixture at pubs, restaurants, diners, and kitchen tables. And seriously, with crispy fries, thick gravy, and melted cheese on your plate, what’s not to love?

In addition to being delicious, poutine is also simple to make. The gravy comes together in minutes, your oven broiler will make that cheese gooey in no time, and with so many great varieties of frozen fries out there, don’t feel bad not making your own—or subbing in roasted potatoes.

Another thing we love about poutine is its versatility. The “classic” poutine features crispy fries covered in brown gravy and firm cheese curds. Such simple ingredients, though, inspire variety, so don’t be shy about having fun and mixing things up. At Cabot, we sometimes sub in waffle fries or tater tots for traditional fries. And though we love cheese curds, we also love poutine that’s smothered with our melted award-winning cheeses. In fact, we get hungry just thinking about it.
