I like to put a handful of shredded cheddar in a skillet then place a slice of buttered bread on it. Then add two slices of cheese. When it is time to flip, pick the sandwich up with spatula and drop another handful of shredded cheddar in skillet and place sandwich on the shredded cheese and took till.desired browness. When placing the handful of cheese in skillet, spread it out slightly to the approximate size and shape of your bread.
Any cheese combinations can be used, I prefer cheddar on the outside of the sandwich and a milder cheese like American on the inside.
