Low Carb and still tasty!
Diet trends are constantly changing and evolving. Twenty years ago, low fat diets were all the rage. More recently, high protein approaches like the paleo diet have become popular and now, ketogenic diets are slowly coming into the spotlight. Keto diets are high in fat and protein and low in carbs.
While carbs are one of the necessary macronutrients and cannot be completely eliminated, there’s no denying the currently popularity of low-carb diets. When you lower your carb intake, you have to pump up your intake of proteins and healthy fats. Many people are limiting traditional carb sources like wheat bread and pasta in favor of other carbohydrate sources like sweet potatoes and fruit. Other people are just focusing on cutting back on carbs in general and choosing recipes that are much higher in fat and protein vs carbohydrates.
If you’re going low carb, it’s a great opportunity to try some low-carb twists on some of your favorite recipes. Vegetables like cauliflower and zucchini can be used as low carb alternatives to wheat-based pizza crusts, tortillas etc. In addition, nut-based flours like almond meal and coconut flour can be used to make lower carb baked goods.
