CUT French bread into cubes or slices as you prefer and set aside.
MELT butter in medium sauce pan and add brown sugar and maple syrup. Heat on medium until brown sugar is completely dissolved. Pour into 13″ x 9″ glass baking dish.
WHISK remaining ingredients together in a large bowl until well mixed.
ARRANGE bread pieces in baking dish on top of the brown sugar glaze to cover bottom completely.
POUR custard mix over bread until completely covered. Cover dish in plastic wrap and set aside for at least ½ hour, or overnight.
SET oven to 350 degrees. Remove plastic wrap from dish and bake the French toast for 30 – 40 minutes until the top is golden. Let sit for 5 minutes before serving.
TOP with mini chocolate chips, sliced bananas, berries or other sliced fruit, if desired.
