If you’ve wanted to make healthy crackers at home but haven’t attempted it because it seems like a difficult, tedious process, you have to give this whole wheat cheese crackers recipe a try! The only special equipment you need is a food processor, which does the majority of the work for you. Once your cracker dough is made in the food processor, you just need to roll it out, refrigerate, cut into squares and bake – similar to cut-out cookies! Not so bad after all! Make these and then share how easy it is to make whole wheat crackers with family and friends on Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, and Twitter.

Begin by grating Cabot Sharp Cheddar cheese in a food processor. Once grated, remove the grater from the food processor and put in the dough blade. Sprinkle the cheese with the kosher salt and onion powder, then add in Cabot Salted Butter. Pulse until butter is distributed throughout cheese and the mixture begins to resemble course sand.

Next, add in the whole wheat flour and process until the dough comes together. Through the opening on the food processor lid, add the cold water while dough is mixing and mix until just combined.

Scoop the dough out onto parchment paper, sil-mats or even wax paper and form into a flattened circle. Place another piece of parchment paper (or sil-mat or wax paper) on top of dough and roll out to about ⅛ inch thick. Refrigerate dough for 1 hour.

Preheat oven to 350°F. Cut dough, using a knife, pizza cutter or pastry cutter, into ½ inch strips lengthwise and then repeat width-wise to make ½ inch squares. Place cheese cracker dough squares onto baking sheet about ½ inch apart from each other. Bake for 10-13 minutes, or until crackers are just set and edges are slightly browned. Watch carefully the last few minutes to avoid burning the crackers!
