Summertime with kids is arguably the best time of the year. When you are finally able to escape the confines of the house at any time, summer opens a whole new world of possibilities, not only for fun outdoor activities such as running through sprinklers, jumping into a cool lake, playing a game of soccer, or drawing an epic chalk drawing, but also new food possibilities.

You don’t have to limit your summer vacation with your kids to plain ol’ hamburgers and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. There are so many other options to discover! All you need is some creativity and great ingredients such as Cabot cheese, yogurt, and cottage cheese. Here are some kid-friendly ideas for summertime events full of good eats:

Picnic in the Park:

Pack up your picnic basket (or better yet, cooler!) and have a day of fun in a child’s paradise with these great recipes: Cheddar Cranberry Apple Slices, Grape-Banana Smoothies, and Gobblers with Cabot Cottage Cheese. The kids will love the fun finger foods and the smoothie made with grapes and bananas — what kid doesn’t loves grapes and bananas?

Day at the Beach:

Cheddar Cranberry Stuffed Apricots, Grape-Vanilla Dip with Fruit Skewers, and Curried Turkey Lunchtime Wraps will keep the hungriest kids full for a day of fun in the sun. Make sure to wash the sand off your little one’s hands so they can enjoy these finger foods before jumping back into sand castle building.

Road Trip Lunch:

Are you getting ready for a long drive to your cottage? Keep the kids entertained and well fed with these fun Yipes Stripes, Nutty Monkey Protein Smoothie, Gluten-Free Goldfish Crackers, or a Munch Bowl. One less time you have to hear “Are we there yet?!?” Every parent knows how important that is.

Backyard BBQ:

Keep things interesting by leaving the hot dogs in the fridge this time. Try Grilled Cheddar Flatbread with Garlic Thyme Oil, Grilled Chicken Pitas with Basil Cheddar Mayonnaise, or Grilled Summer Pizza. Your kids will love these options, but so will all the parents at the BBQ. Make sure to have some fun beverages too — these Raspberry Creamsicle Smoothies are sure to be a hit.

Wherever you’re headed with the kids this summer, you’re bound to have smiling faces and happy bellies with these ideas. Even if you’re not going anywhere but plan to spend time in the backyard, these ideas are simple and quick — they’ll get you back outside as soon as possible.
